Written for the *Foundation: What Is a Friend* class, this historical fiction novelette invites readers into one of the most powerful examples of early Friends faith becoming visible mercy.

When Stephen Grellet entered Newgate, he saw what London had learned to ignore: mothers in misery and children growing up behind prison doors. When he carried that concern to Elizabeth Fry, the burden became more than pity. It became cloth, presence, teaching, organization, public witness, and holy obedience.

This class edition explores the Friends conviction that the Light of Christ does not merely comfort the soul; the Light searches, steadies, and sends.
